History of the Museum
The story of the Frontiers of Flight Museum began in 1988. Its founders were William E. Cooper, an entrepreneur and civic leader; Kay Bailey Hutchison, a politician and diplomat; and Jan Collmer, a pilot and businessman.
In its early years, the museum was located inside one of the terminals at Dallas Love Field Airport. As the collection grew over time, the museum relocated in 2009 to a spacious 100,000-square-foot facility on Lemmon Avenue.
Aviation historian George E. Haddaway played a major role in the museum’s development by donating an extensive collection of aviation books, magazines, and photographic archives.
The Frontiers of Flight Museum showcases both military and civilian aircraft and includes a special section dedicated to space exploration. It also highlights the contributions of Dallas and the Dallas–Fort Worth region to the advancement of American aviation. - North American P-51 Mustang (1940s): The legendary World War II fighter that escorted Allied bombers across Europe.
Lockheed T-33 Shooting Star (1950s): A jet trainer used by the U.S. Air Force for more than 30 years. - Spacecraft components and artifacts from the U.S. space program, including original NASA equipment.
Today, the museum continues to modernize its exhibits, showcasing the evolution of aviation from World War I to the present day. It regularly hosts educational programs, school tours, lectures, and workshops.
In 2023, the museum added a modern C-47 aircraft to its collection—one of the most popular exhibits among visitors. Between 2024 and 2025, the museum underwent extensive restoration and maintenance work to keep its exhibits in top condition.
The Frontiers of Flight Museum is open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Sunday from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Admission ranges from $7 to $10, depending on age.
The museum offers free parking, full accessibility for visitors with disabilities (including elevators and wheelchairs), and wheelchair rentals on site. Conveniently located near the airport, the museum also provides visitors with a chance to observe modern aviation in action.
